Has anyone got very drunk in late pregnancy and had a child with no health problems?

No lectures about the dangers please! I am well aware of them.|||Hi ya i have a friend and she has a very bad drink problem,She drank constant with her 3 children and they all turned out with no problems.|||I guess it depends on your definition of "very drunk"

Excessive alcohol can be detrimental to anyone, adult or child but to a developing child in the womb the effects of excessive alcohol can cause learning disabilities and mental problems.

Of course what is considered excessive within pregnancy is likely to be nothing compared to outwith pregnancy. Its all relative.

The truth is there is no way of telling what the damage to the foetus is until its born and is starting to develop.

If your alcohol intake in pregnancy has been regular throughout the 40 weeks then you are at a considerably higher risk of giving birth to a child with FAS.

If you got drunk on one glass of red wine then you should be considered relatively safe. If it was a lot more then i dont think theres anything that can be done about it now. Its just wait and see.

Im sure youre not the first, wont be the last either. Speak to your doctor about it and possibly an alcohol counsellor if its a problem.|||To answer your question, yes, I am sure plenty of women have went out, gotten drunk late in their pregnancy, and given birth to a normal child.

Getting drunk once will probably not cause fetal alcohol effects. However it's not something you'd want to do because it's terrible. Alcohol causes the fetus to convulse or contract and spasm.

So answer your question, yes, I am sure it has happened plenty of times. But don't ever do it.

It's like saying "Has anyone ever jumped off a three story building and not broken their neck?" I'm sure plenty of people have but why would you do it and risk it?|||I don't think anyone can give you an accurate answer to this question because most women are smart enough not to drink during pregnancy.

Drinking heavily during late pregnancy is basically the same as giving a newborn alcohol. I don't see how anyone could feel good about themselves after doing that.|||Yes, once upon a time it was not at all uncommon to see pregnant women having a few, not just chronic alcoholics but your average house wife, in fact it is not uncommon to hear about women craving beer during pregnancy, women who would never touch one before their pregnancy. The difference is today modern knowledge tells us better. My own mother got falling down drunk at least once while carrying me, and there is no FASD in me, but that was 40 years ago and like I said we know more now.|||no but I wastched a film of a woman who did both of her children had fetal alcohol syndrome ,. with learning disorders such as dislexia and add and adhd.they look normal besides the normal features of a child with fetal alchol syndrome

Growth is diminished. Birth weight is lessened. Retardation of longitudinal growth is evident on the measurements of length in infancy and of standing height later in childhood. The growth lag is permanent.

Performance is impaired. The FAS infant is irritable. The older FAS child is hyperactive. Fine motor skills are impaired with weak grasp, poor eye-hand coordination, and tremors.

Intelligence is diminished. The average IQ is in the 60s. (This level is considered mild mental retardation and qualifies a child in the U.S. as educable retarded.)

The head is small (microcephalic). This decrease may not even be apparent to family and friends. It is evident upon comparison of the child's head circumference to that of a normal child on a growth chart. The usual degree of microcephaly in FAS is classified as mild to moderate. It is primarily due to failure of brain growth. The consequences are neither mild nor moderate.

The face is characteristic with short eye openings (palpebral fissures), sunken nasal bridge, short nose, flattening of the cheekbones and midface, smoothing and elongation of the ridged area (the philtrum) between the nose and lips, and smooth, thin upper lip|||Jeso, I wish i was as perfect as some people on here!

A one off shouldn't cause problems, but continuous use will make the risks alot higher. Try not to worry as I am sure it will be fine. i have known many women who have drunk smoked and taken drugs all through their pregnancies and had perfectly healthy babies, but its not worth the risk.|||Your baby will be fine.

Alcohol mainly affects the developing foetus in the first trimester, as do most other teratogenic (problem causing) chemicals.

At 38.5 weeks, you baby is virtually fully developed, so there is probably no harm done if this is a one off.

However, you have to ask yourself if this kind of alcohol consumption is what is expected of a parent to be.|||I personally have not (38.5 weeks pregnant), but I'm sure women on here have. If my friend can smoke through both of her ENTIRE pregnancies and have normal kids, so can a woman who got drunk 1 NIGHT late in pregnancy. Just, don't do it again (if this is yourself you're talking about).|||I haven't, no - and can't help you with an answer. Some people, though, are horribly self-righteous in response to your question.

More of concern to me is WHY you felt the need to drown yourself in alcohol. Late in pregnancy, that's especially counter-intuitive!

Unhappy?|||If you care so little for the child you are going to bring into the world that you will risk its health for the sake of a drink why have a child in the first place. A parents primary roll is to look after and protect a child and that starts at conception not at the birth.|||i had a little drink at the weekends and got abit drunk afew times in my pregnancy and my baby boy is perfectly fine it makes me laff when you ask a serious question on here and the feed back you get is just stupid like evey 1 is perfect wen their just no just cuz ur preg don't mean u cant still enjoy you self a little your baby will be just fine some women have kids who are alcoholics and they grow up 2 be ok just ignore there people the should all have mary poppins tattooed on there heads lol xx|||This site says drinking in late pregnancy may cause mental retardation, FAS is a possibility. I hope you haven't but it sounded like you may have, so I hope you baby is fine, and nothing happened.... BUt you can' t be a 100% until he/she is born|||I couldn't take the risk... It's just not worth it. I can imagine holding her in my arms now i only have 6 weeks to go. If i knew i'd taken that risk with her health i couldn't deal with it... It is a mothers job to protect her children from the moment they're conceived til the day she dies!|||umm well i wouldn't take the risk because that would be pretty bad.. but I can say I knew someone who didnt know she was pregnant and was drinking throughtout the whole pregnancy.. had the baby and so far nothing is wrong-- but there could DEFANITELY be problems in the future.|||i was drinking a lot early on as i didn't find out i was pregnant until i was 9 weeks as i was on the pill and not expecting to be having a baby and my baby girl is just fine tho i do feel so guilty even tho i know it was not my fault|||Drinking in late pregnancy is a form of neglect. Would you do drugs? Hopefully not, so why drink? I feel really sorry for your baby.

What you did is really irresponsible.|||Wow some people are really judgemental, obviously you made a mistake don't do it again!!!! Anyway your baby will be fine, it's acutally alot worse in the first trimester, and eventhen it has to be cronic.|||um...no..but i did drink with my first pregnancy but..it was O'DOULS and it was just a sip so..i dont think that kounts lol.. i would say you shouldnt try it but..btw this question is worded it sounds like u already have.. good luck =)|||I have never my self and never would but my friend was a heavy smoker of weed and dope which i didn't agree with she also drank and her baby was very ill when she was born but it varies really|||There are mixed reviews on this subject. The best would be to read verified sources or just to ask your doctor.

http://www.bukisa.com/articles/52268_drinking-while-pregnant|||no, i wouldnt have even thought twice about it, becuase my baby's heealth meant more to me than my pleasure. how selfish of you.|||I had a colleague who did, she worried loads afterwards but her little girl was fine, (but she did regret losing her control)|||probably.

People have also survived 3000 ft drops when their parachute fails to open.|||If your well aware of them then you wouldn't be asking such a STUPID question!!!

Btw...you sound like a selfish *****! I hope you aren't pregnant.|||I am sure millions of women have thank God for the babies.

I am shocked that women do such selfish things|||I can't say because it wasn't worth the risk for me.|||If you are asking this question then you should talk to your own mother, it sounds like she might have drank with YOU|||if you are well aware of the dangers, then why are you asking this question????|||no i didnt drink.... why did you???????|||never heard of anyone, but ... because the baby is so developed I think it would affect it ...
