Serious question about parents and the health of their child.?

Where do you think the line should be drawn for parents being allowed to make health choices for their children?

At what age, and under what circumstances should the government be allowed to step in?

At what age, and under what circumstances should the a doctor be allowed to step in?

At what age should the child be able to decide for themselves?

Should medical or government interventions be allowed if the person is legally an adult?

Many parents choose to leave it in god/nature's hands and just pray/wait.

Certain religions or even strong non-religious beliefs dissuade parents from allowing their children to get blood transfusions, inoculations, and/or certain medicines and procedures.

Many medicines and especially inoculations come from animal sources requiring animal experimentation at the least, and often the death or use of an animal.

Often there is a justifiable fear of risk from the treatment itself, and sometimes there is not.|||When neglect comes into play. It is a parents duty to provide there child with healthcare etc. And if a parent fails to do this a number of occasions then someone has to step in.

I never leave anything in goods hands or wait something out. If my son is ill to give me concerns over it I'll be the first one in line at the doctors.

If I was to refuse treatment for my son in regards to his medical issues I know for a fact a court order would be obtain. So I think that one rule for all should be applied not just particular circumstances.|||In most cases, children ARE allowed to make decisions regarding their own health from about age 14 on. Provided that the medical professional has deemed the child competent enough to do so. This is why girls under the age of consent are able to get birth control without parental consent, get treatment for sexually transmitted diseases without parental consent and seek obstetrical care without parental consent.

Why would a child getting measles trigger a county-wide health warning?

I just saw that my county has issued a health warning because a school-age child has come down with measles. They are urging everyone who isn't vaccinated or immune to get vaccinated. Why? When I was a kid, everybody got measles. It wasn't fun and it wasn't pretty, but you got over it. As far as I know, it's not a killer disease. Why would measles trigger this kind of panic? Has anyone else heard of anything like this before? Just curious ...|||May I ask where you are from? I know that in the US, a child is required by LAW to receive the MMR (Measels, Mumps, Rubella) vaccine. Their are parents who chose to sign a waiver to not have their child(ren) receive the vaccine, however there has to be a ligitament reason (ie; religious reasons, etc) not just that dont want them to get it. Measels is a very contagious, and deadly disease. The thing about it is, that it is 100% preventable, as long as people are vaccinated for it. The panic lays because it is such a contagious disease that once one person gets it, then thousands and millions of people get it. I do not personally understand why everyone is not vaccinated from this, sense it saves millions of lives each year. Please "google" or "yahoo" this disease to see what the complications/side effects are from this disease. Then you will understand why there is such a panic about it. In the US they are even asking Adults to get a "Booster" vaccine for this disease- as to help further prevent the spread and contaimination of it. I hope this doesnt scare you too much, but it really is a scary disease. Best of luck in your research.|||because measles can be very hard on people. It is very contageious you wouldnt want EVERY child in the county to have it at the same time. its one of those things that we have the cure fore before it starts, so sace your self the pain and get imunized.|||Because it's a highly contagious disease.|||I think it's because ALL children are supposed to have had measels shots before they start school, so there should be NO cases of measels anywhere.

Anyone who somehow missed the shots and hasn't had the disease could get it. I don't know why they think it's so dangerous, but I went blind temporarily when I had them. It wasn't a good disease to have.

Can a woman's emotional state effect the health of a child she is pregnant with?

Biology is a weak point of mine. I know some biologically produced chemicals can effect mood. For example, dopamine has a direct correlation with happiness. I am curious though if mood may effect biochemistry in some way as much as the other way around. My girlfriend is due to deliver soon, and we have gone through some rather difficult times in the last few months. The specifics should not be necessary since I am looking for a general answer, but are there any risks our daughter may face if her mother is suffering emotionally?|||I'm in a psychology class at Cal Poly and I recently learned that extreme stress in the 2nd trimester is believed to be a cause of homosexuality in a child. I'm sure there are other risks that are involved because the biochemistry in the mothers brain directly effects the child in some cases.|||There isn't that I have heard of. Many, many women have gone through great suffering during pregnancy and still given birth to healthy babies, while many other women have had ideal times of it and had sickly children. There is really no proof one way or the other; it's all theories since it can't be systematically tested without serious ethical violations. The best you can do is hope that your baby will come out fine. I bet s/he will. =)|||He asked if there were any risks his daughter may face...

Alex- 'I recently learned that extreme stress in the 2nd trimester is believed to be a cause of homosexuality in a child.'

I wouldnt call homosexuality a risk.. its not dangerous or a disease! Im sure he'd be happy with a homosexual child as long as she was perfectly healthy!|||Wow, ok. Honestly yes it is BELIEVED or theorized that it can affect your baby. But more in a way that they would be more prone to stress or more withdrawn at somethings. Ive NEVER heard not once that your emotional state can cause homosexuality. Honestly I think thats ridiculous.

The community health nurse is performing a well baby check on a nine month old infant, the child is due for routine immunizations. The mother who speaks little English is hesitant to give consent for the immunizations; she indicates through an interpreter that immunizations for an infant are prohibited in her culture. The nurse is aware that there is an outbreak of pertussis in the neighborhood where this family lives. Discuss the ethical dilemma using the principles of autonomy, beneficence, nonmaleficence, and justice; consider the nurse, the mother, the infant, %26amp; the community.|||The answers are in your school book.....

Has anybody in America ever taken a child 18 and under and not received health care for them?

I mean been denied the health care that child needs? Please not trying to be a smart ..you know ,I was just under the impression that was the case.Do you know of anybody?I don't..I was raised dirt poor..|||I have never heard of a health care provider that has ever denied a child services. It just goes against everything they stand for, and I hope I never see it come to that in my country.|||Nope.

And even if health care was denied on the spot...Medi-Cal is only a form away.|||thanks for giving me a star for interesting question|||Not as of yet but, we probably will in the near future.

Why is physical play and exercise good for a child's mental health?

I have looked on the internet, but all that comes up is the same one-helps you with your school work. I need help, this is my coursework and it's due in on the 27th, so I need help.|||Physical play can include activites that involve pretend play, which is a great way for children to use their imagination. It also allows them to interact with other children, and to learn how to do things. Physical play can also allow a child to show emotions, such as happy. This helps their mental health tremendously. Also exercise can be in a group activity, making the child feel involved and loved. If you isolate a child and do not allow them to interact it can cause them to feel alone, left out, sad, this will have a great impact on their mentality.|||Physical play and exercise is good for developing the child's mental health with the fact that it creates endorphins which is a good rush and it allows for children to have good thoughts.|||If you have to give your child a healty brain and body, then play some music and make him dance.|||It's not. They should be locked up until they are 18.|||Play catch and cook with your husband|||One word - endorphins.

A question about the child health care veto?

Why did Bush veto the child healthcare bill?|||Because the Democrats had added in a bunch of other programs. It would have let millions of working people making $80,000 a year in on the insurance. Then they could have cancelled the insurance they already had. You and I would have to pay for their insurance then and OURS. It was the first step to socialized medicine and thank God he realized it and vetoed the bill.|||Congress expanded the income qualification limit substaintially, above and beyond what Bush felt was necesary.|||cuz he doesnt give a crap about americas kids they arent voters yet and social security is in the toilet .....|||Because the healthcare providers and drug companies are among Bush's biggest contributors, and their profits are his top priorities in the matter. All the other excuses he gave are pretexts. He will never sign a bill that might regulate the profits of his buddies in the health care industry.|||The child health care bill (aka SCHIP) exists already, this was for expansion of the program to cover middle-income families. Bush is willing to expand the program, just not to the extent that it is being proposed. He believes that it should be only for the poor children, just as it is now.

Can my 23-year-old child stay on my health insurance coverage even if offered insurance in her new job?

My 23-year-old daughter was just hired for a new full-time job. Rather than spend money on health insurance, can she turn it down and stay as a dependent on my coverage until age 25? I'm in Maryland, if that matters.|||No. If she has a job that offers benefits she does not qualify to be added to her parent's policy.|||Sadly another person was actually correct. If your insurance plan is a grandfathered plan then it makes no difference whatsoever whether you daughters new employers offer benefits. You can keep her on your policy, ask your HR. My daughters are on mine for this very reason and both had plans offered.

|||You can do as a friend of mine did and pay her the amount that they will deduct out of her paycheck for health insurance so that she has coverage. My friend whose son is age 19, making over $60,000 a year, did not want to pay $200 per month for his employers health insurance, so his parents have reimbursed him $200 each month so that he is covered. The odd thing about this case is that this kid has had heart and brain problems the last 2 years that the doctors were unable to diagnose him and he had brain surgery last week. Kids just see that "X" amount is deducted from their paycheck and prefer to keep the money to themselves vs buying health insurance, since they believe they will never need it.

Since she will be eligible for health insurance in her job, she will not be eligible to be on your own employer, so it might be cheaper to reimburse her the amount they will deduct vs if she has an emergency and then you might end up helping her pay off the medical bills if she fails to buy health insurance.|||It really depends on if your health insurance plan is considered a "Grandfathered Plan." If it is, then she will not be eligible for your coverage. If it is not, then there is no stipulation that she not have other insurance available. Your employer must provide you with a statement about the Grandfathered status of your health plan--if they haven't yet, call and ask the Benefits or HR department.|||No. If she's offered insurance at her new job, she isn't eligible for coverage under your policy.|||~~No the law says she must take the group coverage her job offers.~~

I want to be a child and adolescent mental health nurse, what grades are needed (UK)?

I live in the UK. i would like to become a child and adolescent mental health nurse, working with teenagers that suffer from depression, self harm etc in a mental health unit. what sort of grades would i need and how would i go about it. if anyone has experience in this profession then what subject would need to be taken in college/6th form and so on.

thank you.|||To do a nursing diploma you only need 5 A* - C at GCSE level, then you can start nursing at uni once your 17 and a half. If you want to do a degree, you need A levels. It's better to do a degree and by the time you do it, it may be your only option. If you do A levels i think you need one science, then the other 2 are whatever interests you, but it would be really helpful to do psychology.

Bills like no child left behind and the new health care aren't constitutional right?

We have a federal government, not unitary, or a confederacy. Thus powers were given to the national government and to the states.

Enumerated Powers (National Government): primarily the ability to coin money and create a national defense though there are more.

Concurrent Powers (shared by both National and State)

Taxation

Reserved (State)

Police, education, welfare

Yet we are allowing the national government to have control of these powers? Its in the 10th amendment that the reserved powers are for the States. These bills are not constitutional right?

The national government now mandates in some cases how many police officers will be hired per area, has passed this no child left behind, and now health care... all three of the main state powers and we are allowing the national government to take over them?|||You are starting from YOUR theory of what the Constitution says, and using that theory to conclude that bills which have passed constitutional muster in the Supreme Court are invalid.

No Child Left Behind is Constitution because it doesn't force the states to do anything. It merely conditions state receipt of federal aid on certain performance benchmarks. Which is perfectly fine.|||The Bush/Republican "No Child Left Behind" Act is a complete failure

(ask ANY educator).

but it was legal (Constitutional).

PLEASE do EVERYTHING you can to keep Republicans out of power long enough to clean up all the messes they left behind! (at least 12 years)|||Well, since no decisions have been offered by the Supreme Court regarding No Child, Health Care, etc., as of today they are perfectly Constitutional.|||See: Implied Powers

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Implied_pow鈥?/a>|||The US Supreme Court would have to make that decision.`|||The Federal Government can, and will do, whatever it pleases.....if you want to change what it does, either run for office yourself, or vote for someone else... it's an elected government...|||Yes, both are PLAINLY unconstitutional. This is why BOTH were Democrat written and had little or no Republican support.

Bush signed NCLB and the very Democrats who WROTE it immediately decided it was evil and distanced themselves from it and claimed it was Bush's bill.

Democrats like Billy, firewomen, Sophie and Steve do NOT believe The Constitution says what it says. They ACTUALLY believe it says whatever a liberal (ONLY a liberal) Judge says it says, even if that means it simultaneously says different and mutually excluding things for two different cases. Billy's "special" interpretation of NCLB ignores the fact that no lawful power for the needed appropriations exists. They don't see any need for government to obey the law and in fact OBJECT whenever it does. They demand the "might-makes-right" plan: the Feds CAN do it (not legally, I just mean they are physically able) so it's O.K. if they DO.

Do you have to cover your child on your health insurance plan if they are over 18?

Hey I'm studying child mental health and this is the question that I would like answered?

What goes on in a five year old's head when he says poopy ol' Jane for example. Why do they say this? I'm just curious.|||Well, the child knows why he's saying it, I can only guess here.

If "Poopy" is a word he says a lot, and to mean "mean" or "jerk" in adult talk, there may be a "Jane" in his life that he really doesn't like or, possibly Jane mistreats him, or possibly that tells him to do things he doesn't want to do (like a nanny would).

Anything that sounds odd, I would look into it further; maybe ask him "Who is "Poopy 'ol Jane?"

You'll be able to tell by the look on his face and his mannerisms if Jane is someone who makes him mad, who he fears, or, there's always the slight chance he has DID if he acts differently often.

Either way, I would check it out.|||A child's mental health depends on the parent/guardian and what they do . There is no natural way for all children to develop mental attitudes . It is all given to them or a result of their body development and the parent's reaction to it.|||Usually they just say stuff like that because it'd funny to them and it's fun saying.

If Jane is an actual person or something, than it's more than likely a joke that they just think is funny to say; like when they're called silly or something.|||Hey,

Have you tried this? My cousin found a cool site that helps with dreams, sexual stuff, and hair loss. There might be a topic for you to check out as well.|||They say it cause it is fun and funny. This is normal. Kids just wanna have fun. Motivations are pretty simple at 5 years old. Its us adults that try to read to much into it.|||My guess would be that the child is angry with Jane.....

What is a holistic approach to improving bladder health in a child?

She is very healthy, but seems to get alot of bladder infections. I don't like to use antibiotics unless really necessary. Any suggestions from people who know?|||I agree with cranberry juice, but it can be kind of tart for a small child. You might try cran/apple or one of the other combinations. Also more water. Keep those kidneys and bladder flushed out.|||CRANBERRY JUICE|||I agree with the above. Another thing you might try is teaching her to wipe front to back instead of back to front to avoid contamination with E. coli from the anal area. It's the #1 cause of urinary tract infections regardless of age.|||I've read that cranberry juice has a property that prevents bacteria from sticking to the walls of the urinary tract as the urine passes by.

I flat did not like it, but found it was not quite as bad if I poured it over ice and just sipped it. Diluting it just made it last longer. I did find that the combination with raspberry was just as effective, and much more pleasant to take.

I never had to take castor oil, but heard it was bad, so I told myself to drink it, it's medicine, like having a shot, and just gag it down! I've finally learned to not mind drinking Cran-Raspberry, but only Ocean Spray brand.

I've had more than a few kidney infections, but no longer go to a doctor, just drink another jug of juice. Saves a lot of time and money.

Health issues that affect a child鈥檚 development?

what are general health issues issues that may affect a child鈥檚 development.

also would asthma and diabeties be health issues that would affect a child?|||I'm not clear if you are talking about physical or mental development. Pretty much anything can affect the development. Common cases of jaundice can cause brain damage. Asthma is pretty common and I don't think their are any developmental issues but the steroids are bronchidilators that are used to treat asthma can cause delay in development. Diabetes is really complicated so in short, yes. Insulin is a growth hormone and diabetes is a condition of lack of insulin. Childhood parasitic infections can attack the brain, although rare.

Anybody take their child to a holistic health practitioner?

My friend takes her baby and kids (the whole family) to see a holistic health practitioner instead of a modern doctor. She has great things to say about the doctor (she's nice, fixes issues that her regular pediatrician couldn't, takes time to talk about the issues, prevention etc.)

Does anybody else do this? how did things go?|||Yep.

We've used a wide variety of different health care practitioners over the years as well as "regular old docs". I've had different experiences with each practitioner most of them have been good.

I've used midwives, acupuncturists, Dr of Oriental Medicine (DOM), Chiropractors, and many more....and many were combinations of these.

I think it's really whom you feel most comfortable with and whom treats your family with a style that works for all of you.

Has anyone got very drunk in late pregnancy and had a child with no health problems?

No lectures about the dangers please! I am well aware of them.|||Hi ya i have a friend and she has a very bad drink problem,She drank constant with her 3 children and they all turned out with no problems.|||I guess it depends on your definition of "very drunk"

Excessive alcohol can be detrimental to anyone, adult or child but to a developing child in the womb the effects of excessive alcohol can cause learning disabilities and mental problems.

Of course what is considered excessive within pregnancy is likely to be nothing compared to outwith pregnancy. Its all relative.

The truth is there is no way of telling what the damage to the foetus is until its born and is starting to develop.

If your alcohol intake in pregnancy has been regular throughout the 40 weeks then you are at a considerably higher risk of giving birth to a child with FAS.

If you got drunk on one glass of red wine then you should be considered relatively safe. If it was a lot more then i dont think theres anything that can be done about it now. Its just wait and see.

Im sure youre not the first, wont be the last either. Speak to your doctor about it and possibly an alcohol counsellor if its a problem.|||To answer your question, yes, I am sure plenty of women have went out, gotten drunk late in their pregnancy, and given birth to a normal child.

Getting drunk once will probably not cause fetal alcohol effects. However it's not something you'd want to do because it's terrible. Alcohol causes the fetus to convulse or contract and spasm.

So answer your question, yes, I am sure it has happened plenty of times. But don't ever do it.

It's like saying "Has anyone ever jumped off a three story building and not broken their neck?" I'm sure plenty of people have but why would you do it and risk it?|||I don't think anyone can give you an accurate answer to this question because most women are smart enough not to drink during pregnancy.

Drinking heavily during late pregnancy is basically the same as giving a newborn alcohol. I don't see how anyone could feel good about themselves after doing that.|||Yes, once upon a time it was not at all uncommon to see pregnant women having a few, not just chronic alcoholics but your average house wife, in fact it is not uncommon to hear about women craving beer during pregnancy, women who would never touch one before their pregnancy. The difference is today modern knowledge tells us better. My own mother got falling down drunk at least once while carrying me, and there is no FASD in me, but that was 40 years ago and like I said we know more now.|||no but I wastched a film of a woman who did both of her children had fetal alcohol syndrome ,. with learning disorders such as dislexia and add and adhd.they look normal besides the normal features of a child with fetal alchol syndrome

Growth is diminished. Birth weight is lessened. Retardation of longitudinal growth is evident on the measurements of length in infancy and of standing height later in childhood. The growth lag is permanent.

Performance is impaired. The FAS infant is irritable. The older FAS child is hyperactive. Fine motor skills are impaired with weak grasp, poor eye-hand coordination, and tremors.

Intelligence is diminished. The average IQ is in the 60s. (This level is considered mild mental retardation and qualifies a child in the U.S. as educable retarded.)

The head is small (microcephalic). This decrease may not even be apparent to family and friends. It is evident upon comparison of the child's head circumference to that of a normal child on a growth chart. The usual degree of microcephaly in FAS is classified as mild to moderate. It is primarily due to failure of brain growth. The consequences are neither mild nor moderate.

The face is characteristic with short eye openings (palpebral fissures), sunken nasal bridge, short nose, flattening of the cheekbones and midface, smoothing and elongation of the ridged area (the philtrum) between the nose and lips, and smooth, thin upper lip|||Jeso, I wish i was as perfect as some people on here!

A one off shouldn't cause problems, but continuous use will make the risks alot higher. Try not to worry as I am sure it will be fine. i have known many women who have drunk smoked and taken drugs all through their pregnancies and had perfectly healthy babies, but its not worth the risk.|||Your baby will be fine.

Alcohol mainly affects the developing foetus in the first trimester, as do most other teratogenic (problem causing) chemicals.

At 38.5 weeks, you baby is virtually fully developed, so there is probably no harm done if this is a one off.

However, you have to ask yourself if this kind of alcohol consumption is what is expected of a parent to be.|||I personally have not (38.5 weeks pregnant), but I'm sure women on here have. If my friend can smoke through both of her ENTIRE pregnancies and have normal kids, so can a woman who got drunk 1 NIGHT late in pregnancy. Just, don't do it again (if this is yourself you're talking about).|||I haven't, no - and can't help you with an answer. Some people, though, are horribly self-righteous in response to your question.

More of concern to me is WHY you felt the need to drown yourself in alcohol. Late in pregnancy, that's especially counter-intuitive!

Unhappy?|||If you care so little for the child you are going to bring into the world that you will risk its health for the sake of a drink why have a child in the first place. Btw...you sound like a selfish *****! I hope you aren't pregnant.|||I am sure millions of women have thank God for the babies.

I am shocked that women do such selfish things|||I can't say because it wasn't worth the risk for me.|||If you are asking this question then you should talk to your own mother, it sounds like she might have drank with YOU|||if you are well aware of the dangers, then why are you asking this question????|||no i didnt drink.... why did you???????|||never heard of anyone, but ... because the baby is so developed I think it would affect it ...

Can my wife and I each have an FSA and HSA with a child and two separate health insurance policies?

I am married and my wife and I have health insurance separately through our respective employers. My plan is a copay plan with an FSA. Hers is a high deductible plan with an HSA. We have a baby due on January 10th and will put the baby on her insurance policy. Can we keep both her HSA and my FSA, or do we need to get rid of one, and if so, when? Can we finish out the year, or does it stop immediately?|||As long as she is only depositing the amount for an individual now then you're fine. Once the baby is born she can deposit the entire family amount into the HSA. What she has doesn't affect you and vice versa. However, she CAN use her HSA funds for your medical care. Once the baby is born you're better off fully funding the HSA rather than the FSA unless you're doing more than the ~$6000.

What is most detrimental to and best for a young child's health?

pick one for each question (2):

A) being a vegetarean but eating any food within that one standard

B) being raised on organic foods (including meat)

c) being vegetarean but only eating organics

d) being raised on every food type(so, also eating meats)

e) eating only meats such as chicken or fish

i was just wondering....

also, please do not just put your opinions here i want real factual answers

Thank You!|||Any child during their growing years needs calcium, iron, potasium,B complex. Organic is good but expensive for a child(picky eaters). So given the choices you put forth I would say at least until 13 D would be the answer. At 13 they can tell you what they do and don't like.|||There can be arguments made for and against for every item you post.

Sexually unsatisfied can cause health problem in child?

if a girl's husband is sexually not strong, mean he finishes in few seconds of after starting intercourse, but the girl still needs it more..but she does not say it, and controle her needs, but she actually feel uncomfortable..now i heard if condition is like this than pregnancy can be delayed and also the child who born in this condition also may affected by some health issues..is it true?|||Genetically, yes, the child may get some characteristics from the father, but in terms of the sex itself no, just because he finishes early doesnt mean he will ruin the masterpiece.

Will having a heart condition corrected as a child disquailify me from joining the army now in perfect health?

when i was a child i was diagnosed will sub- valbular stanosis and was operated on around the age of eleven i am now thirty years of age, and am in perfect health. My cardiologist says i have minor almost undetectable palpatation, and have no limitations regarding performance. i have a somewhat of a visible scar on my chest of course from the precedure.|||Ask them !

How does the health of your UNVACCINATED child compare with that of your friends' vaccinated children?

Have any of you decided not to vaccinate your child? Why? How do you think it has effected you or your child?|||The media has done a great dis-service by hyping wrong information about vaccines causing autism etc.

Go to the Center for Disease Control website and read all of the misinformation surrounding vaccines - they have a whole section devoted to debunking these myths specifically for concerned parents. Go and read what the SCIENTISTS have to say.|||no, i vaccinate my child...im not willing to risk his health for my own judgements...he is very healthy.|||It is a ridiculous self indulgence to avoid vaccinating your children. Vaccination has made the world a far safer place. You may not realise it, but an illness like measles can leave your child disabled or even kill them.

The medical profession is working to protect your child. To disdain that help is foolish, pure and simple.|||well my son (8) has most of the vaccinations. By the time I had the baby(2 1/2) had done the research and decided that no shots till at least 2. she has had 2 major bouts of the stomach flu that her brother brought home from school but that is only sickness. where her brother who has had the shots seems to get sick at least once a month.

weather a cold or some stomach thing|||The health of your unvaccinated child is definitelly at risk!! Why would you put your child in jeopardy and why would you put your child at risk of not being immune to virus' that are around us all of the time? This would not affect you, the parent, if you had been vaccinated, however, it will always affect your child because as they enter the school community, they would have to be red flagged as not being vaccinated and at risk of spreading certain virus' or diseases or at risk of catching various virus. The risk of being vaccinated out weighs the risk of not being vaccinated. Research and statistics on this topic back up my decision. I had all four of my children vaccinated and all four have been healthy and had no adverse side effects.

I also have taught school for many years and all of my students have been immunized except for one. The one not vaccinated had to be reported and noted.|||No, I vaccinate my children. I do not want to risk them getting an of those diseases, its not worth it.|||I have because i look back to when we were younger and we never had any of that stuff and i find that we are actually healthier than what the kids are now a days who get filled with all that medication...I am a big beliver in how they used to do stuff in the olden days|||don't know any as my school district requires all kids to be vacinated before kindergarten|||You are kidding, right? You want to leave your child unprotected against whooping cough, meals, mumps? Just one of those illnesses can be fatal to a child and when they get them they are horrific. A terrible way to day or to suffer long and hard and then recover, all because you do not vacvcinate? There is no medical evidence that shots cause mental retardation or SIDS or autism - only old wives tales. In fact, they have recently discovered autism is genetic!

How you could even consider not giving your child every possible protection against polio and other diseases that routinely killed children just 50 years ago is totally incomprehensible to me.|||I don't know how old w_damara2002 is, but I was vaccinated as a kid and if your under 50 you probably were too. Thats why we were healthy, now you have parents who decide not to vaccinate and THAT is the reason why we see these diseases coming back. It is completely irresponsible to not have your child vaccinated and quite frankly it borders negligence. The "crap" that we are filling our children with, gives them a chance the kids in olden days didn't have, think about the childhood mortality rates then and also in countries that can't afford to give these kids vaccinations. The reason our children are so sick is because of drug-resistant bacteria due to not finishing prescriptions! Oh and you won't notice a difference in your childs health until they contract measles, mumps, rubella or polio and then you will. The reason that the diseases aren't as bad now is because of vaccinations!|||After doing the research, weighing the risks/benefits, I vaccinated my children, but NOT on the "suggested" schedule. I was a year behind on most vaccines and didn't go with multiple shots in one visit. It's amazing to me how FEW parents actually research what is being put into their children and let "THEY say to do this" be the only guideline needed... sad.|||We vaccinate our young children. So far our oldest has only been sick once...a 24 tummy bug right after we moved into our new house (which my husband and I also had...ah stress!) Our youngest hasn't been sick at all!

I strongly believe in protecting my children from any disease I have the power to prevent. I think they are at a GREATER risk of being exposed to harmful chemicals/additives from the polluted air/water and processed foods then they are from any vaccination!

I don't personally know any parent who ISN'T vaccinating their children, so I honestly can't make a comparison between the health of their child and my own.|||My children are vaccinated, and frankly, I'm glad that they are safe from the kids who aren't.

I recently found out that a friend of mine doesn't vaccinate her boys. One of them is a classmate of my son's. He and his brother are always ill.

Having a daughter prone to certain illnesses b/c of being born with a cleft lip/palate, I'm relieved to know that she is protected, especially now that she'll be starting kindergarten.

As for not vaccinating, yes, it's one's personal choice. A friend of mine chose not to vaccinate her first child... the little one ended up dying of complications from the chicken pox, sadly. Well... this friend now vaccinates. :)|||I do not vaccinate my children, (3 year old and 10 month old). I do not notice much of a difference in my children from those who are vaccinated around him. I do take note that it takes my children a significantly shorter time to get over things than others. Whether that is attributed to vaccine status, I'm not going to speculate because I don't think it is really that important.

As for not vaccinating, here are a few reasons why I made the decision not to:

A person would not normally contract 5 diseases at one time naturally, yet at 2, 4 and 6 mth. visits a baby is injected with five vaccines.

There is no proof that vaccines are responsible for the decline in certain diseases - improved sanitation, medical care and less crowding may also have contributed to the decline in certain diseases. Most diseases decreased by over 95% BEFORE the introduction of vaccines.

By vaccinating children, many cases of certain diseases (ex. measles, chicken pox) have now shifted to the adult population where the disease is often more serious and debilitating.

Vaccines have not been tested for any possible carcinogenic (cancer causing), teratogenic (gene altering) effects or their effects on the reproductive system (it says this right in the product inserts from the manufacturers).

Vaccines are not 100% effective so the child can still get the disease even if they are vaccinated and a child can actually get a disease sometimes from the vaccine if it is a live vaccine.

After researching many of the diseases(like measles, mumps and polio), I found they are not as scary as the media hyped them to be, especially for a healthy immune system. Example: Polio is 90% asymptomatic.

The same amount of vaccine that is given to a 4 yr. old is given to an 18 mth. old and a 2 mth. old, etc.

I beleive the chance of dying or getting a serious side effect from the actual disease is much less than the chance of dying or getting an adverse reaction from the vaccine. The dieseases are not dangerous or deadly in most people.

I believe that injecting my children with things such as formaldehyde, mercury (trace amounts), aluminium, paint thinner, coolant, anti-freeze, detergent phenols, MSG, plus dead animal tissue, aborted fetus tissue, mutated human and animal viruses, bacteria, antibiotics and animal, bacterial and viral DNA, is not particularly a good idea.|||our grandson had a very bad reaction to a vaccine. ever since we are wary of vaccines. we read all the stories that relate vaccines to autism

Does the child of an investment banker deserve better health care than the child of a mechanic?

Oprah's question, not mine, but I just want to see what answers are here. Studies are showing that mortality rates are higher for lower income families due to poor or no health insurance in the United States. Those who do not believe in government sponsored health care are failing to come up with any answers, just criticisms of a government system. What are your thoughts?|||I find this one of the most laughable arguments that people like to sling when pointing the finger defending the bogus system we already have.

I am Native American and I get free health-care through my tribal clinic. This has hardly made me a socialist. My health care is good! my prescriptions free!

How come the rest of the country is not being looked out for, for all the money we keep paying in to the government?

I'll tell you why. No politician wants to tell their sacred cash-cow (the pharmaceutical companies) they are no longer going to be a controlling power broker in this country.

Its like a revolving door watching Pharmaceutical executives leave their companies for a short spell to enter into government offices like: the FDA, Department of agriculture and EPA.

Those facts are all there for anyone who wants to look them up on the net.

This is another reason why you see the witch doctor medicine of today treat symptoms and not find cures...there is no money in cures.|||28 other civilized countries don't think so...Universal with all its flaws is a more civilized option.|||Health care is not an entitlement. So, if the banker is able to provide better coverage, then so be it.|||it shouldn't be so but that is the life our government is put us in...thats why we need to change them an chief executive like obama|||no, not at all, but an investment banker can afford better health care for his child. Thats the thing, the more money you make, the more you can afford. Moral of the story is, stay in school, get an education, even if its as a mechanic.|||Mechanics actually make pretty decent money.|||Keep it up and you'll be asking." does the child of an investment banker deserve a better cell phone than the child of a mechanic?"

A big lesson for you to learn is, life isn't fair.

You can bet Oprah has better health care than either a mechanic or an investment

banker,|||Health Care programs are all different. Some plans have broader coverage than others which make some plans more expensive than others.

From what I've seen, some mechanics today make as much or more than an investment banker and they could afford a better plan.

As with all things today it's about the $$$$. If you've got the $$$$ you'll have better than most and not as much as some others.|||"Deserve"? What an odd choice of wording. It's really not meaningful in the debate, IMO. And shame on Oprah for continuing the idiotic emotionalization of the issue.

It's not about "deserving" better care or not. That's for over-emotional dimwits to whine about.

The issue is about the proper Constitutional role of the federal government with regards to extra-Constitutional excursions into the areas of health care or health insurance.

The framers of the Constitution were quite clear on the point that the Constitution did not allow for charity or welfare, that such things were the province of state government.

"Deserve" is a bullsquat argument that avoids the issue.|||Health care, as Michael Moore showed in his movie Sicko, is a privilege for the privileged. If you trust a multi-billion dollar corporations with your health care (which nearly all American do) then we're putting our lives in the hands of these corporations. A corporation, no matter it's service, is about money. Even a health care organization is not focused of making you healthy, they're focused on making money and becoming bigger and more powerful.

If the question is about ethics, than certainly not. All human beings are unique and beautiful, and all of us deserve the highest quality of care regardless of social class or income. When greed, power, and money outweigh human life than we know we have serious problems. If people demanded a universal health care system (like England, France, Canada, and Cuba) then we would have it. Complacency is what allows those corrupt few to make decisions that directly affect us all.

Then we have the skeptics saying universal health care is bad because we shouldn't trust the government with our health. They may point at public education as an example. That's because the government purposely provides inferior services to make private companies look better by contrast. Why would they do that one may ask? Our government is not a sentient being, it's merely people collected together making decisions. Who are these people? Businessmen. And these businessmen want to ensure their side-business thrive and succeed. Even our vice president Dick Cheney's Carlyle Group owns Dunkin Donuts and Baskin Robbins.|||The government of this country has a program in place to provide health insurance to people who do not make enough to provide health insurance for their children. It is called the SCHIP program. It provides insurance to the working poor on a sliding scale. These are people with incomes up to $30,000 dollars a year. (Most mechanics make considerablely more than that, they are very highly paid they just get dirty at work.) President Bush has already raised the amount of money in the SCHIP program, what he vetoed was increasing the amount of money to cover people who make up to $80,000 a year and would insure children up to the age of 25. (Don't know about you but 25 is not a child.)

However, the problem I have heard is that people who are eligible are not signing up for the program. There have been various reasons given for this. The biggest one is the pride people have in providing for their own.

What should we do? Most counties in this country have a public health care system. This program should be expanded. It is not that I don't want my tax dollars used for health care it is just that I don't want the federal government to do this. The feds are too loose with my money and the folks at the county level are close enough to feel the voters wrath if they waste our tax dollars.

Another thing that would help is if teaching hospitals saw more patients. The patients could pay on a sliding scale. This would be a win/win situation as the doctors to be would get more practice and the patients would be getting state of the art care at a price they could afford.

Lastly, malpractice lawsuits. I do not have a problem with a harmed patient receiving money to cover the original problem plus the problem the doctor caused through the wrong treatment or no treatment. I do have a problem with that patient becoming wealthy off this doctor's mistake. Needless to say the award should also cover reasonable attorney's fees. The lawyers do not need to become wealthy off the doctors either.|||I honestly don't have a grand opinion on this going in, but since I have some training in business and economics, let me brainstorm....

I guess you are implying that unlike other uses of the Investment Banker's money, he shouldn't be able to purchase better quality health services by spending more of it?

Economically speaking of course :)

OK let's look into that.

Somehow, that would mean that health coverage is enough of a special case that we would try to distort the open market for it and it alone because we have decided it is important for the benefit of society.

So, now that we have reframed the question, what would we have in such a world?

Well, if more money couldn't buy better health care, then that means the quality of all health care would be exactly the same, right?

It also means that the amount of money people were wiling to pay (and doctors are willing to accept) would be enough for the doctors to make a living they want to make.

And that no additional amount of money could act as an incentive to either attract potentially better doctors to the field, or for existing doctors to imporve their skills (violating the principal that all have equal quality).

All of this is contrary to the rest of our entire economy's principles and I don't see how it could be done.

I know Canada and others have socialized medicine, and I don't know how they address these economic issues.

I am not familiar with their details, but it is my impression that Canadian medical quality is more consistent if not unifrom.

Because doctors do not need to be as entrepreneurial as here inthe US, overall the delivery of medicine is less sophisticated as an organization that evolves.

And also, both the lowest level of quality and the best level of quality that you will find in the US are not available.

What would be interesting to know is if the proverbial Canadian Investment Banker will come to the US when he needs bettter quality or more specialized care then would be available in Canada but *is* available outside Canada?

I think he would, or truth be told, at least the best American medical care is available to him, but not to all Canadians, and so the example that Canada's system is somehow more equitable because the rich can't get better care with their own money would be a fallacy.

Just some thoughts, sans emotion, from an economic point of view, in what is usually presented aas an emotional and political topic.|||There are so many factors to consider, but if studies show that income is reflected in mortality rates it could show that lifestyle has a big factor as well does the quality of the type of insurance that is available for each one. I used to be a lib and would have welcomed care for all, but being the working poor for most of my life, as well as being a single mother, and raising my son without any kind of help from the government, I see it differently now. Parents need to take responsibility for their children and this type of aid will only let parents use the money that they should be paying for health care go to dining out, new cars, and vacations and such. If you were to look at say those that would be eligible for this aid you would find that most if not all have two cars, cable TV, and eat out often and take vacations often. I bet they would also have large credit card debt, and live was beyond their means. I have family members that have health care available with their jobs, but do not get it because the premiums are too great, so their families go uncovered, but they have two new cars, remodeled homes and vacations yearly at the very least. So when we cover their health care we are just subsidizing their lifestyle

PS%26gt; I used to be a cashier at a Chevy dealership, I don't think they made as much as a banker, but I would bet the money they made was more than enough to cover their families health care, what they charged was more like highway robbery than minumm wage|||Oprah likes to talk about children. I don't know why exactly.

It's not a question of merit; it never has been. It's a question of who can afford it. And it's also a question of fairly compensating doctors who incur staggering tuition bills, and then staggering malpractice premiums every year after graduation. They can't charge what they're worth because the insurance carriers won't pay.

But bad as things are, the government screws up everything it gets its greedy little hands on. I have no confidence in the government's ability to fix health care in the US.

So when I get the tumor that will eventually kill me, it's good-bye Charley!|||Your question, Oprah's question in your spurious disclaimer, is loaded and you well know it.

You imply that in the interest of "fairness" that lower income people deserve national health care and throw in the ever-emotionally charged issue of the "children suffering."

Why not simply ask how long someone has been beating their mother? "Oh, not long" and "Oh quite a while" are equally damning answers to a pre-loaded response necessitated by such an inquiry as that, and so is the case with your inquiry.

Why not instead ask why the more productive members of society who statistically speaking have eschewed unfettered breeding in favor of advancing education, career and productivity, should be obliged to pay for the profligate lifestyles of an underclass who have children they cannot afford to support with critical amenities like health care?

The answer does not lie in why the productive class is not doing more to address the problem. It lies in why the less productive class is creating the problem in the first place. Take some personal responsibility!|||These arguments are always so bogus - you want to us to assume that Little Sally mechanics daughter is living in squalor and dying of scurvy while the Little Johnny the bankers son is eating bon bon and getting treated for disease he doesn't even have!

It's crap. Health insurance is available to all children through SCHIP if the income is below a certain amount. Many companies offer health insurance as a benefit - but you have to pay a portion. The issue is that people will pay for cable, internet, new cars, big TV's - but they don't want to make a co-pay for freakin health insurance! That is the FIRST damn bill that should be at the top of the pay category each pay day! My daughter works RETAIL PART TIME and is offered health insurance, but she'd have to pay a portion of the premium (about $200 a month). She has the option - and she knows that health insurane is extremely important - but luckily she is a college student and covered under our insurance (which we pay a hell of alot more for than $200 a month!). She would take the insurance in a heartbeat if she was not covered - and she would adjust her living around a necessary bill!

The tear jerker garbage is ridiculous - the "haves" as people would like to think those who have health insurance and good income didn't get their with their thumb up their butt whining about how unfair the world is. They got off their butt and made their way in the world.|||No, and that child does not deserve a better attorney, or a better education, or better nutrition, or a safer neighborhood, but their parents can afford it.

That is not an excuse for our nation's failure to provide decent health care, equal justice, adequate education, proper nutrition and a safe environment for all children.

Credit Reporting for child health services?

I have 2 children and have and am not married to their mother. While it was her allotted time to visit with the children, one became sick and she took them to the hospital. She did not pay the bill. Collections has come after me and reported a delinquency to my credit bureaus.

Is that allowed, how is it something she was responsible to pay, be reported on my credit????|||If you have joint custody, then you do have legal responsibility for children's health bills if the primary parent does not pay.

If you have severed custody of the children, or have never legally addressed custody, then you "may" be able to avoid responsibility. However courts in many states have placed financial burden on non-custodial parents in cases where children have outstanding bills. I presume mom has no insurance and took the kids to the hospital under Title 19. Title 19 bills in particular will follow a non-custodial parent. There are court cases where a mother has sued to sever custody rights with the father and STILL won garnishment against his wages for both child-support and medical expenses. There are even a handful of cases where the 'father' had proof the kids were not biologically his, crazy eh?

So yes, you don't have a lot of options here. Courts use a "what is best for the child" type of doctrine. You can get a lawyer and dispute the bill for around $800 in fees, but that's about all you can do. If the mother agrees to and you have not yet done so - you should legally formalize joint custody rights between you and the mother including a schedule of fiscal responsibility that details who is responsible for what expenses. Her lawyer will likely request setting up a child-support schedule if you do not already have one. Alternatively, you many get some kind of protection from future expenses by abandoning your parental rights which includes severing custody and visitation. Even if you do this, it is very difficult to avoid responsibility for child-support or expenses related to medical costs.

One other point comes to mind. You may be able to prosecute the mother for larceny, even though you are likely legally responsible for the bill. If she used your name and social security number without your permission, that qualifies as fraud/id theft in some states. This even goes for husbands, in some cases you can prosecute your wife for taking out a joint credit card on id theft grounds... This may give you a route to sue her and recovery the money, after you pay it to the hospital first unfortunately.|||credrepair.freeoda.com - use this service to predict how your credit score would change in future for various procedures of these payments.

Is surviving spouse and child entitled to health insurance benefits if employee dies before retiring?

Not necessarily 鈥?especially if he wasn鈥檛 retired yet. It鈥檚 going to depend on the company鈥檚 own policies and on the regulations and laws in your state. Check with the company鈥檚 HR department and your state department of insurance to learn more.

Assuming the survivors not eligible for coverage under the retiree health benefits program, they should be eligible for COBRA. COBRA can be expensive, but it鈥檚 an especially good option for people with pre-existing medical conditions who might be declined coverage elsewhere. If COBRA is too expensive and they want to explore other options, they should work with a licensed health insurance agent online or in their local area.|||It depends on the rules of the retiree program, you'll have to read them.

If the employee was eligible for retirement benefits, but was still working, then I would say yes. If the employee was not eligible for retirement benefits, then I would probably say no.|||The retiree health benefits probably would have applied to the person himself, not his dependents.

You should call his company or his health insurance plan and ask them.

Cigarette smokers To Pay for child health care?

This is very odd..

I have to say, I smoke but don't drink.. . Drinking causes far more health risks then smoking ever did, look at all those people killed by drunk drivers?.. Children die in car accidents, children become homeless, we pay for parents to drink when we pay for medicaid., to take their child to a doctor, yet they have the money to go sit in a bar. I can't believe the people who hate smokers, but will sit under a tree smoking pot.. How about the congress and their fine parties where Alcohol is drank?

I hate it so I think we should charge a 1.00 per drink to pay for that tax..lol at least we would be fair in doing that.. What do you say? Oh and lets also tell people who drink and gamble, to pay a speical tax also.. How about Chocolate eater, or people who eat to much at McDonalds.. Yeah..lol Do you see where it is going?.. They have no better ideas to help this country, they just throw stuff around to show they over paid!!

Wake up People!!|||They complain about how smoking kills and all they do is tax it. Way to go dems.

If it is so bad they should ban it. But alas they will not too much money to be made.|||Oh us smokers pay a chunk of taxes every time we buy our cigarettes. If our government really cared about Americans health then we'd all have insurance.|||People in South Carolina aready pay too much to drink. Not that they need to drink. In restaurants it's really expensive to get a mixed drink.|||I know.

It7s just law after stupid law.

The problem is because lawmakers are not thinking logically and in the long term when they make these laws. They just make a snappy decision to shut people up like giving a pacifier to an infant. They have no regard for liberty and will not stop until our freedom is gone completely.

People just don't believe in personal responsibility anymore.

That's why we ALL need to VOTE for RON PAUL '08.|||If those political jerks in Washington, all the State assemblies and Senates and in the municipalties stop getting extra perks, subsidies, and free health care not a single soul in this nation need to pay for somebody else's health care!|||tax junk food as well! all the ads are for kids and that's who pays for it in ill health anyway so why not pay for their health care!|||Oh brother.

If you are polluting the air, then pay the price.

If your pollution is making your children sick, then pay for that.

That goes for any smoker.

I don't drink, smoke or take drugs, I do not like chocolate, and rarely eat at McDonald's.

But MY eating chocolate will not endanger another human. YOUR smoking will and does.

MY eating McDonald's will not endanger another human, but YOUR smoking will.

If your children are sick due to your smoking, then why should I in any way pay for their care.

You chose the habit, that you know can hurt them.

It is more like, 'I love these smokes, more than I want my children to have good health.'

I do wait eagerly, where smoking in a closed car, with children 12 and under, is illegal.

Drinking and driving is illegal. So why not killing your own children slowly, be illegal?

Anyone that smokes where someone else has to breath that dirty air, thinks only of themselves and the other people are second, that includes your children. You may say you would do anything for them, but smoking near them belies that statement.

They come second to your cigarettes.

Solution: quit smoking, it can be done, has been done, and is really not that hard, if you want to, that is if you want to put your children's health before your cigarettes.

Good Luck|||Yes, we have children in Adelaide so I guess there would be child health nurse jobs in Adelaide. Currently there is a major shortage of nurses in Adelaide. You can try finding vacancies here. http://www.careerone.com.au/|||I dont work in the industry sorry but yes', I know we are always looking for nurses.

You can try a job search engine like Seek.com.au (I always find this one is the best) or careerone.com.au or jobsjobsjobs.com.au

or a dedicated nurse site OxleyNursing.com.au or a health care nursing site www.healthstaffrecruitment.com.au/nursin鈥?

What's better for health and social care/ child care?

What's better for health and social care/ child care sixth form or college?

Because i'm not sure which to do and i was wondering what would be better because i want to get the best grades possible and do as well as i can|||i did health and social care, and am in my final year now

with the Edexcel exam board

It's quite interesting :)

You need a teacher who is really good and marking and giving courswork back though, if you have a teacher that never marks work, dont do it

But if you do, go for it :D

Also, if you wanna go to uni, look at the entry requirements :)

Which one is better health and social care or child develpment?

im going to pick my GCSE options soon and i want to study sociologly, scicology %26amp; criminology when i leave school to become a criminal profiler , i know i need to take science but i dont know what else to take? but i dont want to take forensics course in collage as that isnt as good but i dont know wether health and social care will help me or child development?|||I would suggest health and social care as it covers far more areas than child development. It also opens up alternative avenues for you in case you change your mind about being a criminal profiler|||Health and Social Care, you'll find a lot more psychology material in that course and it covers child development really well, i've taken both, I did H%26amp;SC as a BTEC in school at your age, then did child development at college and found it was basically a repeat of everything i'd done on child dev in my H%26amp;SC course. My younger sister just finished year 10 %26amp; was doing both and dropped child development because of how similar it is to what's covered in H%26amp;SC

Like the first answerer said it also gives you an amazing choice of job prospects if you ever did change your mind about your career. Also when you leave school, bit of advice, you'll find a forensic psychology course more useful, some colleges run these courses :) Hope it helps|||It depends what you want to do. Health and social care seems better if you're going to become a criminal profiler. Child development seems geared for teachers and nannies and such.

Can I have a dependent care FSA for child care expenses & an HSA with a HDHP health insurance plan?

I know there are specific limitations regarding medical FSA's and such but I wasn't sure regarding dependent care. My wife and I have a High Deductible Health Plan and HSA through her work and we are having a child soon so we are considering the dependent care FSA through his work for upcoming day care expenses and such but we don't want to get hit on taxes or do anything that would effect the medical side. Any accountants and tax professionals with advice? Thanks!|||You can have both; the FSA will not affect the HSA. Here is the IRS publication for information on both plans: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p969.pdf|||They are separate and unrelated.

Is there any research that shows plastic toddler beds can be harmful to a child's health?

If it was im sure they wouldnt sell them.|||There is a ton of research that supports that a chemical group in plastics, called phthalates, are incredibly harmful to a child's health. As a matter of fact, Thomas Jefferson Hospital, Seattle Children's Hospital, the Environmental Protection Agency and others are all stating that consumers should be aware of the results of the new studies regarding the association between phthalates and asthma, allergies, eczema and developmental disorders. In addition, phthalates are banned in Europe because of the results of the studies that show these chemicals cause human harm at current exposure levels.

As a consumer, you don't have to be informed of the chemicals that make up a children's plastic bed. Some of the beds do contain phthalates.

You don't support the child health bill because 25yr olds will get it, but illegals getting it free is OK?

This country has gone insane!

These people are worried about 25 year olds getting free healthcare and that is why they deny it

Yet - this Government does nothing about our open borders after 9/11 and these 15,000,000 illegal aliens get our healthcare free all across our Nation every day and puts the bill on our hard earned tax dollars

Yes, America has lost its mind and backbone!|||The 25yr olds included in this program represent only 1% or 2% of the total elegible participents. It's cherry-picking on the part of opponents to a program that has been successful in covering children whose parents make over the minimum requirements to qualify for other programs. This is not a brand new program, it's been around for 10 years but just now coming under the scrutinity of those people whom are against anything that the Democrats are for. It's too bad the children that need a program such as this are the ones that will suffer without it, all in the name of partisan politics.|||25 year olds are not children, only US citizens should qualify.|||I don't support the child health bill because its just another entitlement program that the government has no right to do!!

And no one is denied HEALTH CARE!!|||And the question is.... We should be giving health care to people that live in the united states that are citizens in the united states, not the illegal aliens that don't pay taxes because they usually don't use the correct name for themselves, or get paid under the table!|||You don't have to be illegal to get free health care. Hospitals generally operate under the requirement that they must provide care. If you are legal and can prove your income is below certain limits, the hospital will charge off the amounts due.

I don't think we need to create a government program that gives people in the $70,000 income bracket free health care just because they have 4 kids.|||Nobody is "denying" anything. Anybody can purchase health insurance. It just has to be a priority is people's lives. Give up the cell phone, cable tv, satellite tv, new car in the driveway, LCD HD tv. People CHOOSE TO NOT HAVE HEALTH CARE. Nobody is denied it....|||Illegals getting it is NOT Ok.

And by the way, immigrants without health insurance comprise 86% of the increase in so-called "Americans" without health insurance.|||We need affordable health care not more free.

To the others above you are wrong.I cannot get health care when i can afford it because of Diabetes. Answer that for me.|||I don't support any form of socialized health care and neither does the U.S. Constitution.|||There are special cases a 25 and younger should get health care. The children going to school lose health care around 21 on their parents policy and the jobs they get do not offer health care. What do they do? They work for min wage and gosh forbid they get ill or just their annual checkup is unaffordable to pay out right. It makes me laugh though the govt still has them as dependents until 25 and have to use their parents income and can not qualify for grants. So either they are or are not dependents. I would have been happy to keep my children on my health policy while in school if I would have been allowed. Something has to change then.

And yes I will be happy to help pay for any ones vaccines to keep me and mine safe even if it is an illegal citizen.

Where can I get info about the link between traffic pollution and child health in Merseyside ?

you can call your local dept of transportation, they would probably have all the info you need on that subject|||You might want to contact the Friends of the Earth - they are particularly concerned about local pollution affecting health, and what can be done about it. Good luck.

Child support and health insurance question?

My husband has a 10 yr old son who he pays child support for, he doesn't make that much so we receive medical for us and our 4 children. His employer recently told my husband that the child support wants him to enroll my husband in health insurance through his job so his son can get health insurance through him. I know we cant afford to pay health insurance every month, that's the reason we are on medical. my husband told his employer he didn't want insurance. can he get in trouble for this?

FYI his son already has insurance through his mom or step father.|||Your husband should contact his child support case manager about the insurance issues..|||In most states, it is mandatory for the non-residential parent to provide medical coverage for the child, so he may not be left with any choice, or he could obtain coverage for just the child from an independent insurer. If he goes that way, a percentage of the cost can be used as a rebuttable presumption to reduce how much he pays in child support, base on how much the mother earns. This means if she earns the same amount as him, than the court can reduce the child support obligation by 50% of the cost of the insurance. If he comes to Dads House other members may have some recommendations.

For 22 years, I have volunteered my time working with divorced/single fathers dealing in family law issues, such as child support, teaching them about what the states are not telling support obligors. However, men are also highly stressed these days, with severe depression and high rates of suicide, which also need to be addressed.

鈾傗檧|||If the health insurance is a stipulation of the child support through the courts he has no choice but to comply. The best thing he can do is contact his ex and discuss the matter with her to work out a mutual resolution. Either way he needs to handle this part of his life without any interference.

Why do we have to pay so much to buy a house, car, child care, health care and a college education?

"Why do we have to pay so much to buy a house, car, child care, health care and a college education? Why can't these be either free or extremely affordable?"

Should I make a living will or appoint a power of attorney for health care before the birth of my child?

I'm 23 years old, about to give birth to my 3rd child. I got a huge packet of healthcare information from the hospital that I will be delivering at. The ones I am having a hard time with are the ilving will and power of attorney for healthcare. I understand that if something goes wrong the living will covers the specific directives as to to be taken by caregivers, or, in particular, in some cases forbidding treatment. Te power of attorney for health care appoints a person to direct health care decisions if im not in a state to do so on my own. Should I fill these out? I know my previous pregnancys have been fine with no complications, should I be worried about something going wrong with this one? Just curious if anyone else has had to fill out these documents before?|||I filled out both when I had arm surgery in 1999. I was completely healthy, but I wanted to make sure those decisions were made by me and expressed to my family before I had the operation just in case of emergency. I filled them out again when I had my first child because I had moved to another state. I filled them out for the same reason. I know it seems morbid, but you really never know what's going to happen. One of my friends just died after being in a coma for a week from a series of strokes he had. He was 30 years old and nobody knew what to do with his care in the hospital because he never told his family any of his wishes regarding these matters and it was horrible for them.|||Everyone should have an advanced directive for health care and a living will, whether or not they're about to go into the hospital. It just makes sense to have your wishes known in case of a tragedy. Terri Schiavo didn't have anything written.|||Are you married? At least in my state if you dont have a advanced derective the power of attorney is given to the spouse.|||Yes I have had to fill them all out. It isn't a scary thing ... yes it is hard to think that something "could possibly" go wrong ... but it is just a precaution ... wouldn't you hate for something to happen and your family not know what you wanted to be done. Not only did I have to fill those papers out for delivering my children ... I also had to do them again before I had surgery years later.

Relax ... everything is going to be fine. If you are that scarred you can say a prayer and talk to the man up stairs:) Good luck to you and God Bless.

*Btw I am only 26.|||I think you could try both, but I think the best option is maybe the living will, because you can have your personal items and what not in care to the people who know you best, and sometimes the law doesn't always respect what the living know about certain things. Maybe because it wasn't written it isn't valid.

You could also try a written will, I'm not sure what that goes under. Give a copy to your attorney and to your spouse maybe and also keep one in a safety deposit box.

How do i check my unborn child's' health in between doctor visits?

i am about 12 weeks pregnant but i don't have another doc appointment. until dec. 1. im nervous because i've already lost one and i wanna make sure that this one is in good health so i wont sweat it in between my doc visits.|||There isn't anything you can do to check the health of the baby. All you can do is breathe a sigh of relief that you are going to be in your second trimester now. That is a huge milestone in pregnancy. The risk of miscarriage is drastically lower now. All mother's go through this, especially if they have already lost a baby. It is very stressful until you can actually feel your baby moving. Sometimes it is even hard to believe your pregnant at this stage bc your morning sickness is pretty much gone, you have more energy and you can't feel the baby moving as reassurance. But the only thing you can do is relax, take good care of yourself and wait for your next appointment. I don't recommend buying one of those machines from Walmart to hear your baby bc a lot of the time they don't pick up the heartbeat and if you are already stressed, it will just freak you out more. They aren't like the dopplers from the Dr's office, they are pretty much just a microphoned stethoscope Just try to relax. Soon you will be able to feel your baby moving, that will help :) Best Wishes!!!!

LOL...who would thumbs down me for my answer??|||the best thing to do is take care of yourself and relax, stressing may cause more harm and strain on the baby. just remember that 1 miscarriage does not in any way mean you will have another. good luck :)|||The really good news is that if you are twelve weeks along, you are past the most common times for a miscarriage to occur. They certainly can as you are aware, but the chances of carrying a healthy baby to term increase greatly after the 12th week.

I would focus on good nutrition, limiting stress, moderate exercise, and adequate rest. And pray! Don't hesitate to call you doc with any concerns you may have; they are there to help you. If for some reason your doc's office is too busy to discuss concerns with you it may be prudent to look for a provider who can take the time to address your physical and emotional needs.

Can a child under 26 who is NOT in school be on their parents health plan?

As of September 23, 2010 regulations require that insures allow parents to keep their dependents on their policy until they they reach age 26 or until they have a job where the employer offers health insurance benefits.

Does that mean a child under 26 who is NOT in school be on their parents health plan? I know if they are in school the can be till they are 25.|||Can a child under 26 who is NOT in school be on their parents health plan? Yes.

However, if you are not on your parent's insurance policy now you might have to wait until the anniversary of the policy before you can be added. Have your parents call the customer service number on the back of their ID card to find out how their insurer is complying with the new regulations.|||Before 9/23, the age limit was determined by company policy.

After 9/23 - companies have to allow dependents on their parents insurance, at the next open enrollment period. Each company has to have open enrollment annually, so at the latest, it would be before next Sept 23.

Additional information:

- dependents can be covered until their 26th birthday.

- they have to be single

- they can't be eligible for insurance through their own employer

- their parents have to allow them on the insurance

- they don't need to be in school

- they don't need to live with them

Like the other person found out, if there is only one dependent being added on, it is usually cheaper for the dependent to get their own insurance.|||Actually, my insurance company threw my younger son off our policy when he turned 22, regardless of the fact that he would not graduate from college for another three months, so I don't know where you're getting the age 25 thing with that.

The new law states that any child up to the age of 26 (which I assume includes 26) can remain on a parent's health care policy as a dependent.

Where I work now, they told me sure, I could put my son on my policy--for $600/month. I'm going to check now to see if I can just get a family plan that would include him. He's now 24 and has had no health insurance since he turned 22 because his job does not provide it.|||Yes, as long as they don't "age off" the plan PRIOR to 09/23, they cannot be dropped. Even AFTER they "age off" the plan, they can be added back, during the next open enrollment. IF the parent wants to.|||If you are on the plan now yes, if not you have to wait for open enrollment to join unless the plan allows it and most don't.|||Yes. There is no requirement for school. It is EXACTLY the same whether they're in school or not.

Can a disabled dependent with "Green Card" status be claimed on Adult child's health ins as disabled dependent?

The parent has no income and will be claimed on my taxes. Parent is not entitled to any benefits here in the US and is not well.|||On your federal taxes yes. Any person who is provided more than 50% of their living expenses from you and is legally residing here can be claimed on your taxes. |||ask either your HR department or call the insurance company.|||You might want to contact the nearest tax preparer.

How do I switch my health insurance from work provided to private with kids on child support?

I found health insurance cheaper than what my work was offering. i have to have insurance on my kids because i pay child support on them and have to carry insurance. I need to know how to go about doing that in the state of missouri. Please help!|||Are your children school age? United Healthcare offers "kids only" health insurance plans that provide children's coverage for sickness and accidents. Their plans are written through school districts and many private K12 schools throughout the US. Their health plan is designed to be affordable, at just $98 every 2 months. Check out www.k12studentinsurance.com to see if your child's school district (or private school) is participating. You cancel the work coverage, and apply for the private coverage.

You probably want to apply about a whole month before your open enrollment period.

You can't make changes to your company plan, except during open enrollment. So you'll have to figure out when that is, and time things accordingly.

What happens when you turn 18, and are involved in a child and adolescent mental health service?UK?

Do you get referred to an adult service by the child and adolescent one? Or once you turn 18 is that the end of it? Are you only referred if the people you see think you need a referral, or can you request one yourself? Im in the UK.|||I'm sorry that I can't answer specifically for the UK, but I would imagine that the system is quite similar to the one we have in Finland. If only a bit of whatever your treatment is remains, then they will probably continue to treat you within the adolescent mental health service. They aren't that strict about the cut off point, particularly when you have a long history of treatment as an adolescent. However, if you may still require treatment for many years, you will be transferred to the adult mental health service.|||once you turn 18 if you still need help from MH services, you will be referred to the adult side. you can give your choice of what or who you would like help from, and if this is available and is right for your needs, then there shouldn't be a problem with that. you could ask at the children and adolescent unit what you want so they can sort it all out for you.

|||Sanitization and disinfecting is a HUGE one - sickness can spread like wildfire in a child care center.

Obvious general baby/child proofing. Outlets plugged, blinds tied properly, cords kept out of reach, gates on stairs, doors that the children can't open on their own if they're younger.

You must always do head counts, particularly when going and coming from another room, outside, etc.

Choking hazards need to be eliminated completely - anything that will fit through a toilet paper roll, is too small.

Equipment must be age appropriate and developmentally appropriate.

Emergency procedures must be in place and well practiced. When you have 12 infants in a room with 3 caregivers and there is a fire - you need to know how to get all the infants out when only 2 or 3 of those 12 are walking. How do you carry 10 infants between 3 people and corral the walkers in the right direction?

Medications MUST be kept in another room, in a locked cabinet - with the exception of Epi-pens, which need to be close to the child who may need it, at all times.

Allergies must be known, recorded.

Medication logs need to be kept.

Any alcohol on premises must be locked up (This applies mainly to buildings that have dual purposes - halls used as before and after school care, etc) But also needs to be considered for things like gift exchanges or birthday presents - if you buy another co-worker a bottle of wine for their birthday, either don't bring it in, or lock it up until the children are gone.

All shelving and large furniture needs to be anchored and secured.

Sharp objects need to be locked up and kept away.

Playground equipment must be inspected often and have the right spacing for fall zones. Any substrate under equipment must be turned over frequently to ensure proper shock absorption. In the winter, outdoor play grounds cannot be used 95% of the time.

Diapering and potty routines must be follow to ensure proper hygeine.

Universal precautions must be in place and used - this means assuming all children and staff have potetentially infectious diseases and taking proper precautions when cleaning up bodily fluids, wounds, blood, etc as to not infect yourself or others.

Really, I could go on and on.
