Where do you think the line should be drawn for parents being allowed to make health choices for their children?





At what age, and under what circumstances should the government be allowed to step in?

At what age should the child be able to decide for themselves?





Should medical or government interventions be allowed if the person is legally an adult?





Many parents choose to leave it in god/nature's hands and just pray/wait.





Certain religions or even strong non-religious beliefs dissuade parents from allowing their children to get blood transfusions, inoculations, and/or certain medicines and procedures.





Many medicines and especially inoculations come from animal sources requiring animal experimentation at the least, and often the death or use of an animal.





Often there is a justifiable fear of risk from the treatment itself, and sometimes there is not.|||When neglect comes into play. It is a parents duty to provide there child with healthcare etc. And if a parent fails to do this a number of occasions then someone has to step in.





I never leave anything in goods hands or wait something out. If my son is ill to give me concerns over it I'll be the first one in line at the doctors.





If I was to refuse treatment for my son in regards to his medical issues I know for a fact a court order would be obtain. So I think that one rule for all should be applied not just particular circumstances.|||In most cases, children ARE allowed to make decisions regarding their own health from about age 14 on. Provided that the medical professional has deemed the child competent enough to do so. This is why girls under the age of consent are able to get birth control without parental consent, get treatment for sexually transmitted diseases without parental consent and seek obstetrical care without parental consent.

Why would a child getting measles trigger a county-wide health warning?

I just saw that my county has issued a health warning because a school-age child has come down with measles. They are urging everyone who isn't vaccinated or immune to get vaccinated. Why? When I was a kid, everybody got measles. It wasn't fun and it wasn't pretty, but you got over it. As far as I know, it's not a killer disease. Why would measles trigger this kind of panic? Has anyone else heard of anything like this before? Just curious ...|||May I ask where you are from? I know that in the US, a child is required by LAW to receive the MMR (Measels, Mumps, Rubella) vaccine. Their are parents who chose to sign a waiver to not have their child(ren) receive the vaccine, however there has to be a ligitament reason (ie; religious reasons, etc) not just that dont want them to get it. Measels is a very contagious, and deadly disease. The thing about it is, that it is 100% preventable, as long as people are vaccinated for it. The panic lays because it is such a contagious disease that once one person gets it, then thousands and millions of people get it. I do not personally understand why everyone is not vaccinated from this, sense it saves millions of lives each year. Please "google" or "yahoo" this disease to see what the complications/side effects are from this disease. Then you will understand why there is such a panic about it. In the US they are even asking Adults to get a "Booster" vaccine for this disease- as to help further prevent the spread and contaimination of it. It is very contageious you wouldnt want EVERY child in the county to have it at the same time. its one of those things that we have the cure fore before it starts, so sace your self the pain and get imunized.|||Because it's a highly contagious disease.|||I think it's because ALL children are supposed to have had measels shots before they start school, so there should be NO cases of measels anywhere.





Anyone who somehow missed the shots and hasn't had the disease could get it. I don't know why they think it's so dangerous, but I went blind temporarily when I had them. It wasn't a good disease to have.

Can a woman's emotional state effect the health of a child she is pregnant with?

Biology is a weak point of mine. I know some biologically produced chemicals can effect mood. For example, dopamine has a direct correlation with happiness. I am curious though if mood may effect biochemistry in some way as much as the other way around. My girlfriend is due to deliver soon, and we have gone through some rather difficult times in the last few months. Many, many women have gone through great suffering during pregnancy and still given birth to healthy babies, while many other women have had ideal times of it and had sickly children. There is really no proof one way or the other; it's all theories since it can't be systematically tested without serious ethical violations. Honestly yes it is BELIEVED or theorized that it can affect your baby. But more in a way that they would be more prone to stress or more withdrawn at somethings. It also allows them to interact with other children, and to learn how to do things. Physical play can also allow a child to show emotions, such as happy. This helps their mental health tremendously. Also exercise can be in a group activity, making the child feel involved and loved. If you isolate a child and do not allow them to interact it can cause them to feel alone, left out, sad, this will have a great impact on their mentality.|||Physical play and exercise is good for developing the child's mental health with the fact that it creates endorphins which is a good rush and it allows for children to have good thoughts.|||If you have to give your child a healty brain and body, then play some music and make him dance.|||It's not. Why did Bush veto the child healthcare bill?|||Because the Democrats had added in a bunch of other programs. It would have let millions of working people making $80,000 a year in on the insurance. Then they could have cancelled the insurance they already had. You and I would have to pay for their insurance then and OURS. It was the first step to socialized medicine and thank God he realized it and vetoed the bill.|||Congress expanded the income qualification limit substaintially, above and beyond what Bush felt was necesary.|||cuz he doesnt give a crap about americas kids they arent voters yet and social security is in the toilet .....|||Because the healthcare providers and drug companies are among Bush's biggest contributors, and their profits are his top priorities in the matter. All the other excuses he gave are pretexts. He will never sign a bill that might regulate the profits of his buddies in the health care industry.|||The child health care bill (aka SCHIP) exists already, this was for expansion of the program to cover middle-income families. Bush is willing to expand the program, just not to the extent that it is being proposed. He believes that it should be only for the poor children, just as it is now.

Can my 23-year-old child stay on my health insurance coverage even if offered insurance in her new job?

My 23-year-old daughter was just hired for a new full-time job. Rather than spend money on health insurance, can she turn it down and stay as a dependent on my coverage until age 25? I'm in Maryland, if that matters.|||No. If she has a job that offers benefits she does not qualify to be added to her parent's policy.|||Sadly another person was actually correct. If your insurance plan is a grandfathered plan then it makes no difference whatsoever whether you daughters new employers offer benefits. You can keep her on your policy, ask your HR. My daughters are on mine for this very reason and both had plans offered.

|||You can do as a friend of mine did and pay her the amount that they will deduct out of her paycheck for health insurance so that she has coverage. My friend whose son is age 19, making over $60,000 a year, did not want to pay $200 per month for his employers health insurance, so his parents have reimbursed him $200 each month so that he is covered. The odd thing about this case is that this kid has had heart and brain problems the last 2 years that the doctors were unable to diagnose him and he had brain surgery last week. Kids just see that "X" amount is deducted from their paycheck and prefer to keep the money to themselves vs buying health insurance, since they believe they will never need it.





Since she will be eligible for health insurance in her job, she will not be eligible to be on your own employer, so it might be cheaper to reimburse her the amount they will deduct vs if she has an emergency and then you might end up helping her pay off the medical bills if she fails to buy health insurance.|||It really depends on if your health insurance plan is considered a "Grandfathered Plan." If it is, then she will not be eligible for your coverage. If it is not, then there is no stipulation that she not have other insurance available. thank you.|||To do a nursing diploma you only need 5 A* - C at GCSE level, then you can start nursing at uni once your 17 and a half. If you want to do a degree, you need A levels. It's better to do a degree and by the time you do it, it may be your only option. If you do A levels i think you need one science, then the other 2 are whatever interests you, but it would be really helpful to do psychology.

We have a federal government, not unitary, or a confederacy. Thus powers were given to the national government and to the states.

Yet we are allowing the national government to have control of these powers? Its in the 10th amendment that the reserved powers are for the States. These bills are not constitutional right?

It was horrible, but then I thought "wow, that must've felt good".|||My son had reflux really bad as an infant. I took him to the chiropractor for it when he was less than 1 month old. I had high hopes...but it didn't do him as good as the testimonials I had heard from others...but it certainly didn't do him harm.|||its never too early for baby cracks ..they aren't as connected yet like adults . Hey I'm studying child mental health and this is the question that I would like answered?

What goes on in a five year old's head when he says poopy ol' Jane for example. Why do they say this? I'm just curious.|||Well, the child knows why he's saying it, I can only guess here.





If "Poopy" is a word he says a lot, and to mean "mean" or "jerk" in adult talk, there may be a "Jane" in his life that he really doesn't like or, possibly Jane mistreats him, or possibly that tells him to do things he doesn't want to do (like a nanny would).





Anything that sounds odd, I would look into it further; maybe ask him "Who is "Poopy 'ol Jane?"


You'll be able to tell by the look on his face and his mannerisms if Jane is someone who makes him mad, who he fears, or, there's always the slight chance he has DID if he acts differently often.





Either way, I would check it out.|||A child's mental health depends on the parent/guardian and what they do . There is no natural way for all children to develop mental attitudes . It is all given to them or a result of their body development and the parent's reaction to it.|||Usually they just say stuff like that because it'd funny to them and it's fun saying.

What is a holistic approach to improving bladder health in a child?

She is very healthy, but seems to get alot of bladder infections. I don't like to use antibiotics unless really necessary. Any suggestions from people who know?|||I agree with cranberry juice, but it can be kind of tart for a small child. You might try cran/apple or one of the other combinations. Also more water. Keep those kidneys and bladder flushed out.|||CRANBERRY JUICE|||I agree with the above. Another thing you might try is teaching her to wipe front to back instead of back to front to avoid contamination with E. coli from the anal area. It's the #1 cause of urinary tract infections regardless of age.|||I've read that cranberry juice has a property that prevents bacteria from sticking to the walls of the urinary tract as the urine passes by.


I flat did not like it, but found it was not quite as bad if I poured it over ice and just sipped it. Diluting it just made it last longer. I did find that the combination with raspberry was just as effective, and much more pleasant to take.





I never had to take castor oil, but heard it was bad, so I told myself to drink it, it's medicine, like having a shot, and just gag it down! I've finally learned to not mind drinking Cran-Raspberry, but only Ocean Spray brand.


I've had more than a few kidney infections, but no longer go to a doctor, just drink another jug of juice. Saves a lot of time and money.

Common cases of jaundice can cause brain damage. Asthma is pretty common and I don't think their are any developmental issues but the steroids are bronchidilators that are used to treat asthma can cause delay in development. Diabetes is really complicated so in short, yes. Insulin is a growth hormone and diabetes is a condition of lack of insulin. Childhood parasitic infections can attack the brain, although rare.

Anybody take their child to a holistic health practitioner?

My friend takes her baby and kids (the whole family) to see a holistic health practitioner instead of a modern doctor.She has great things to say about the doctor (she's nice, fixes issues that her regular pediatrician couldn't, takes time to talk about the issues, prevention etc.)





Does anybody else do this? how did things go?|||Yep.





We've used a wide variety of different health care practitioners over the years as well as "regular old docs". I've had different experiences with each practitioner most of them have been good.





I've used midwives, acupuncturists, Dr of Oriental Medicine (DOM), Chiropractors, and many more....and many were combinations of these.





I think it's really whom you feel most comfortable with and whom treats your family with a style that works for all of you.
